Polo Ralph Lauren #InspiredPerformances: January 31

Garrett Barber of Stuart, Florida, picked up right where he left off in 2017, opening his 2018 campaign with a victory at the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational. The high school senior entered the final round T8, but roared back to force a playoff behind a 6-under-par 66, which was the lowest round of the tournament. The 2017 Rolex Junior All-American defeated AJGA alum and Vanderbilt University senior Theo Humphrey on the first hole of the playoff with a birdie. Barber, who signed a National Letter of Intent with Louisiana State University, claimed victory at the Jones Cup Junior Invitational in December of 2016, which would serve as a preview of better things to come. He capped off 2017 with a victory at the Rolex Tournament of Champions.

Ashley Menne of Surprise, Arizona, was the only player to finish under par in her victory at the 2018 JGAA New Year’s Classic. The first round took place at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course, where Menne fired six birdies, including four on her bogey-free back nine, to post a 3-under-par 69. The 2017 Rolex Junior All-American managed to hold onto the two-stroke victory after carding a final-round 2-over-par 73 at ASU Karsten Golf Course. Menne is verbally committed to Arizona State University. She owns one AJGA victory, which came at the 2017 ACDS / Ryan Moore Junior at Oakbrook.

Sam Sommerhauser of Rocklin, California, took home the FCWT Half Moon Bay Classic by three strokes. The high school sophomore’s opening-round 4-under-par 68 was the lowest of the tournament and paved his way to victory. Sommerhauser was the only player in the field to finish the tournament under par at 1-under-par 143. The high school sophomore had two top-10 AJGA finishes in 2017: T10 at the AJGA Preview at Yolo Fliers and T9 at the AJGA Junior All-Star at Morongo.

Elisabeth Preus of Auburn, Alabama, won the weather-shortened SJGT Rock Creek Junior Classic by one stroke. The high school junior’s first-round 4-over-par 76 was enough to claim the victory after weather canceled the second round. Preus owns one AJGA victory, which came at the 2017 David Toms Foundation Junior All-Star.
