The AJGA mourns the death of alumnus Sam Holmes of Springfield, Missouri, a freshman at Missouri State University.
As a junior golfer, Holmes played in four AJGA events, with his best finish a tie for second at the 2015 Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship. Holmes attended Glendale High School where he helped the team win a state title his senior year and finished fifth individually and began playing golf at age 4.
“Sam was a remarkable young man whose generosity and selflessness affected so many people,” Missouri State head coach Neal Stafford told Golfweek.
Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri, from 5-7 p.m. on March 21. A funeral service will be held at The Venues, 2616 E. Battlefield, at 2 p.m. on March 22.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Missouri State University Foundation (Meyer Alumni Center, 300 South Jefferson, Suite 100, Springfield, MO 65806), in care of the men’s golf program.
