Team USA wins Arnold Palmer Cup

Nine out of 10 players on the victorious United States Team are AJGA alumni.
Doug Ghim and Nick Hardy are two of Team USA's former Wyndham Cup participants.

The United States earned back the Arnold Palmer Cup on June 11 at the Atlanta Athletic Club, defeating Europe 19.5-11.5. With the win, the United States now leads the all-time series 11-9-1.

The United States had historic results during Saturday’s singles matches. Team USA won 9.5 out of a possible 10 points to jump out to a huge lead heading to the final round. Norman Xiong, a five-time AJGA champion, clinched the United States victory on Sunday with a dominating 8 and 7 victory over Europe’s Harry Hall.

With a star-studded amateur lineup, Team USA had plenty of match play experience to fall back on. Nine AJGA alumni on the team have combined for 12 Wyndham Cup appearances during their junior years.

Doug Ghim, a four-time Rolex Junior All-American was the only player for either side to go 4-0 throughout the tournament. Ghim competed in 29 AJGA tournaments from 2010-14, winning four and competing on two Wyndham Cup teams. He also broke Jordan Spieth’s 54-hole tournament record at the 2014 CB&I / Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods with a then-record 12-under-par 204.

Other AJGA alumni on Team USA include Jimmy Stanger, Nick Hardy, Collin Morikawa, John Coultas, Sean Crocker, Chandler Phillips and 2014 Rolex Junior Player of the Year Sam Burns.
