TOUR Highlights: July 18

LPGA Tour

The 2017 U.S. Women’s Open saw young talent emerge into the limelight as current AJGA player, Hye-Jin Choi finished second at the 72nd major event. Entering in to the final round two shots behind the leader and eventful winner, Sung Hyun Park, Choi produced four birdies to card a 2-under 70 and end the tournament just two shots from the title. 

Choi is currently the No. 2 player in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and has been an AJGA member for two years. She has one victory at her first-ever AJGA event, the Polo Golf Junior Classic. Choi went on to play at this year’s ANA Junior Inspiration where she placed fifth. Current AJGA juniors Rachel Heck and Brooke Seay also made the cut at the U.S. Women's Open.

PGA TOUR

The final hole of the John Deere Classic earned Bryson DeChambeau with his first PGA TOUR victory as he slid in a 14-foot birdie putt to win by one over Patrick Rodgers. His final-round 6-under-par 65 included six back-nine birdies.

DeChambeau started out as an AJGA player in 2009 where he played his first AJGA event, the Trader Joe’s Junior Championship hosted by Pat Hurst.

AJGA tournament host Scott Stallings finished T5 for the event. Stallings has hosted the Under Armour® / Scott Stallings Championship presented by Pilot Flying J for four consecutive years.

Symetra Tour

It took three playoff holes for Erynne Lee to secure the Donald Ross Centennial Classic as her second career victory on the Symetra Tour last week. After four birdies and an eagle in her final round, Lee signed for a 5-under-par 66 to tie with August Kim and enter a playoff where an eventual par would seal the deal. 

During Lee’s seven years as an AJGA member she earned five national victories, had 26 top-10 finishes and was a Rolex Junior All-American for three consecutive years. After her success as a junior, Lee went on to play college golf for UCLA before turning professional in 2016.

Web.com Tour

Austin Cook of Little Rock, Arkansas, rose eight shots in the final round of the Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank to finish runner-up. He carded a 6-under-par 65 to finish one shot back from the leader at 20-under-par 264. Saturday set Cook up for a comeback as he shot his career-low round of 8-under-par 63. So far, this season Cook has had three top-10 finishes.

During Cook’s time as an AJGA player he had three top-10 national finishes and was a member of the 2009 Wyndham Cup West Team before going on to play for Arkansas.
