Lees Lead After Second Round of Laredo Energy Junior at Traditions
David Lee and Erynne Lee enter the final round atop their respective divisions at Traditions Golf Club at Texas A&M

BRYAN, Texas  David Lee of Houston, fired a second round 2-under-par 70 Saturday to take the lead in the Boys Division at the Laredo Energy Junior at Traditions. Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Wash., held on to her three-stroke lead in the Girls Division, scoring an even-par 72 in the second round.

The Laredo Energy Junior at Traditions is a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at the Traditions Golf Club at Texas A&M in Bryan, Texas. The tournament field boasts 89 boys and 42 girls, ages 12-18, from 21 states, Canada, Guatemala, South Africa and Mexico. The Boys Division is playing the par-72 course at 7,000 yards and the Girls Division is playing at 6,159 yards. Second-round cuts were made at 153 in the Boys Division and 158 in the Girls Division to include 49 boys and 21 girls for the final round.

David Lee, who entered the round tied for second, opened with an eight-foot putt on No. 2 for par. He added birdies on Nos. 3, 4 and 10 to take the lead. David hopes to claim his first AJGA victory Sunday.

I'm not going to worry about my score, David said. I felt really good today but it doesn't mean anything yet. I'll try to play the same way tomorrow.

Joining David at the top of the Boys Division are Carl Jonson of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Connor Black of Katy, Texas, who both moved from tied for 10th to tied for second with two-under-par 70s to score even-par 144 tournament totals. Nicholas Torrance of Bradenton, Fla., and defending champion Curtis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla., are tied at 1-over-par 145 for fourth place.

In the Girls Division, Erynne Lee kept the lead by shooting an even-par 72 for a tournament total of 141. Erynne forgot about her double bogey on No. 11 by sinking back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14. Currently ranked No. 28 in the Polo Golf Rankings, Erynne hopes to win the Laredo Energy Junior at Traditions after finishing second the past two years.

On my first hole I was hitting my third shot from the right side of the fairway, Erynne described. I had a tree blocking the green and I was able to fade the ball. I ended up making birdie on that hole which gave me a lot of confidence. I hope to carry this momentum to The Thunderbird Invitational in May.

Three shots back in the Girls Division at even-par 144 is Tanaporn Kongkiatkrai of Bradenton, Fla. Portland Rosen of Sugar Land, Texas, rounds out the top three at 3-over-par 147.
