West Romps to Biggest Victory in Canon
Cup History
The first match of the week and the last match of the week
went to the East. Everything in between was pretty much a
West walkover.
Claiming the largest winning margin in the history of Canon
Cup, the West stormed past the East at Conway Farms.
After building a 22-8 lead through the first two days, it
was nearly a foregone conclusion that the West would take
home the Canon Cup for the second straight year. When the
West won four of the first five Singles matches on Thursday,
it was simply a matter of how much they would make the East
bleed. The 35 1/2 - 14 1/2 score answered that question.
The West outscored the East 13 1/2 - 6 1/2 in the Singles
matches, squeezing every drop they could out of the beleagured
East squad. The previous record for margin of victory was
set in 1990 at the inaugural Canon Cup, when the East scorched
the West 32-18.
West Captain Gus Montano is presented
the Canon Cup from Emily Reynolds (President, Canon
Business Solutions) and Stephen Hamblin (AJGA Executive
Director).
