Pressel Seals 'Career AJGA Slam' With Betsy Rawls Title
Morgan Pressel won her fifth-consecutive AJGA Invitational title, and became the first player to win the "Career AJGA Slam," by dominating the field at the McDonald's Betsy Rawls Girls Championship. Pressel's final-round 71, including a hole-in-one was enough to give her a commanding 11-shot victory.
With a hole-in-one and an 11-shot margin of victory, Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla., added to her storied junior career and earned her fifth AJGA Invitational crown at the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship. Pressel finished at 6-under-par 68-68-71—207, with each round’s score being the day’s lowest, and led wire-to-wire to complete her AJGA stroke-play career.
“It’s pretty important and exciting,” Pressel said. “I’m looking forward to moving on from here. I wouldn’t be the player I am if it wasn’t for my five years with the AJGA.”
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Girls Championship was a 54-hole stroke-play invitational that featured 57 of the world’s best female junior golfers from 15 states and one foreign country. The field included 18 Rolex Junior All-Americans and eight 2005 AJGA tournament champions. The White Manor Country Club, home to the 1981-86 LPGA Tour McDonald's Classic and the Champions Tour's 1991 Bell Atlantic Classic, hosted the event for the second-straight year.
