A Warm Kickoff to the Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series
Spring event at South Padre Marks Early Start to Series for 12-15 –year-olds

Springtime in South Padre Island, Texas, offers nothing but a fun atmosphere, beauty and warmth; not to mention an outstanding golf course—South Padre Island Golf Club. Eighty-four juniors ages 12-15 will venture to the southern tip of the Texas coast, April 30-May 2, for the kickoff of the 2004 AJGA Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series with the Nike Golf Junior at South Padre Island. The Junior All-Star series has given thousands of juniors a chance to play at a national level since 1998.

The series is a collection of 10 events designed for boys and girls ages 12-15. The competition provides an opportunity for younger members to develop their skills and earn entry into open tournaments.

“This event is not only a great start for the Nike Golf Junior All-Star Series, but it also offers a great opportunity to earn exemptions into other AJGA events,” said tournament director Gus Montano.

The Nike Golf Junior at South Padre Island features a Day of Education that provides tournament participants a fun, yet educational introduction to tournament golf. Whether it’s tournament preparation or the intricacies of the Rules of Golf, the Day of Education has all topics covered.

The tournament features 36 holes of stroke play, and with a Friday practice round and shotgun start on Sunday’s final round.

Juniors will get a chance to win a Nike Golf driver of their choice during the tournament cookout’s long drive contest.

The wide-open course, built in 1997, was designed with thought given to the windy conditions, with the longer holes playing downwind. The signature hole, a par-4, 335-yard dogleg left over Laguna Madre Bay, offers a pretty view along with challenging landscape to give juniors a great golf experience.

“The course offers a difficult, yet enjoyable experience for the juniors and beautiful scenery for the spectators,” Montano said.

Last year the Ashworth Postseason Junior at South Padre was held at this same course.
