(May 30): Toms Clears Field by Six Shots at St.
Jude Classic
David
Toms, a former Rolex Junior All-American, won
by six shots at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis,
Tenn., to pick up his 10th PGA TOUR title. After
a slow start to the 2004 season, because of a
December wrist surgery, Toms proved that he is
now back on his game.
At age 37, Toms is also one of just five players
on TOUR under age 40 who have 10 or more victories.
Meanwhile, on the LPGA, Vicki Goetze-Ackerman
was the highest finishing AJGA alum, recording
a runner-up finish at the LPGA Corning Classic.
Although tied with Annika Sorenstam with nine
holes to play, Goetze-Ackerman was unable to match
her, falling by two strokes in the end.
Currently the AJGA National Chairman, alongside
Phil Mickelson, Goetze-Ackerman is enjoying perhaps
the best year of her career. She is currently
25th on the LPGA money list, while her previous
best was 2002 when she finished 33rd. Last year
she finished 48th on the list. In all, the past
few years have been the most fruitful of her 11-year
LPGA career. |
