BRIDGESTONE
GOLF TO SPONSOR AJGA TOURNAMENT IN DURHAM, N.C. The
84-player, 36-hole event will feature the top junior
boys and girls, ages 12-18. The Bridgestone Golf Junior
Classic will include a Junior-Am tournament on Friday,
April 21 at Treyburn Country Club. This will be a donor’s
chance to tee it up with golf’s next generation
while also contributing to a worthy cause. Proceeds
from this event will benefit The First Tee of Wake County
and the AJGA Foundation. Over the past decade, AJGA
Junior-Ams have raised more than $1.5 million for junior
programs in communities across the United States, including
$630,000 in 2005 alone. The
first round of the event will be held Saturday, April
22, while the final round will be staged on Sunday,
April 23. Tee times will run from 8-9:57 a.m. off the
first and 10th tees on both days. “We
are excited about our relationship with the American
Junior Golf Association and look forward to a long-lasting
partnership,” said Darrell Moy, Bridgestone Golf’s
manager of tour operations. “We feel that Treyburn
Country Club is as good a facility on the AJGA schedule
and know that it will be a great championship.”
Treyburn Country Club joins the AJGA schedule in 2006 as a first-time host of an AJGA event. The Tom Fazio-designed course was opened in 1988 and quickly gained accolades as Golf Digest named it “Best New Course.” The
praises of the course continue coming as it is consistently
ranked in the top 10 golf courses in the state and widely
considered the No. 1 course in the Raleigh-Durham area.
“The
AJGA is very pleased with Bridgestone Golf’s support
of our new event in Durham,” said Jason Etzen,
AJGA executive vice president for corporate partnerships.
“This event will be conducted at a first-class
facility and it will be very beneficial to our members
in North Carolina. This tournament will allow them to
showcase their talents and hopefully land a college
golf scholarship.” Bridgestone
