Prestigious AJGA Boys Invitational Moving to Fazio Championship Course at Carlton Woods
HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods slated for Feb. 13-16, 2009

BRASELTON, Ga. – The Club at Carlton Woods, a highly ranked facility in The Woodlands, Texas, will host the best 78 boy junior golfers from around the world February 13-16, 2009, the American Junior Golf Association announced Tuesday.

The HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods, which will be staged on the Fazio Championship Course, will be a 54-hole stroke play event conducted by the AJGA and supported by AJGA Official Partner HP and Tournament Partner Administaff.

Dating back to 1987, this original AJGA boys-only invitational has crowned such champions as Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods and David Duval during its 22-year run on the AJGA schedule. The event has been held at courses in Dallas, Tampa, and most recently in Orlando, Fla., at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge, home to the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

In 2009, the tournament returns to its roots in Texas, where the event was staged for its first 16 years.

“The Club at Carlton Woods now adds its name to an impressive list of host venues of this championship,” AJGA Executive Vice President for Corporate Partnerships Jason Etzen said. “I’m confident the players and tournament guests will be treated to an incredible golf experience throughout the tournament week.”

The Fazio Championship Course opened at The Club at Carlton Woods in April 2006 and was ranked by Golf Digest as the "Best New Private Course in Texas" and “No. 3 Best New Private Course in the United States.” In the time since, it has secured the No. 6 spot in Golf Digest’s 2007-08 overall rankings in the state of Texas and has hosted the 2007 USGA State Team Championships.

“It will be an honor to host the best junior boys in the world on our famed Fazio Championship Course,” Carlton Woods Managing Director Bill Langley said. “By combining efforts with HP, Administaff and the AJGA, we will be able to make this event a truly memorable experience for the players and their families.”

The tournament will stage its Junior-Am and practice round on Friday, February 13. The three tournament rounds will take place Saturday through Monday, February 14-16, with 18 holes of stroke play being contested each day.
