AJGA Preview at Brookhaven wins 2018 Preview of the Year Award

The American Junior Golf Association has awarded the AJGA Preview at Brookhaven with the 2018 Preview of the Year Award. The AJGA recognizes this tournament for its ability to provide the best overall experience at a Junior Golf Hub Preview Series event in 2018.

Each year, the AJGA presents awards to the tournaments with the best individual hospitality, Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament, charitable giving and volunteer base. Awards are also given to the events with engaged media and social media participation. Finally, the AJGA recognizes the year’s most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and general manager, as well as the most improved event, best new event, best Junior Golf Hub Preview Series tournament, best AJGA Junior All-Star Series tournament, best Invitational and overall tournament of the year. Tournament awards for the 2018 season will be presented on-site at 2019 tournaments.

The AJGA Preview at Brookhaven was one of 15 tournaments in the Junior Golf Hub Preview Series in 2018.

“Winning the 2018 Preview of the Year Award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that Brookhaven’s management and membership put into the tournament,” said Tournament Chairman David Klaudt. “The golf professional staff and the maintenance team work very hard to have the course in top shape early in the season.”

The tournament started in 2009 and is in its fourth year as a part of the Junior Golf Hub Preview Series.

“Working with the AJGA leadership team has been easy over the past six years,” said Brookhaven Country Club Head Golf Professional Tony Kot. “The AJGA shares many of the same qualities that we try to incorporate. For me personally, it's all about the possibilities. The possibility of seeing greatness happen or having one of these players kick-start their future here. The possibility of some of our own members being able to play alongside some of the best out there.”

The field was treated to a three-point chipping challenge where the juniors competed against one another to see who could hit the most targets on the driving range. The activity was only part of the fun as the field also participated in a tournament cookout which took place after the Players Meeting. Players also received adidas t-shirts and TaylorMade golf balls as part of the tournament gifts.

The local community rallied around the tournament as local businesses and members of the community contributed to help make the event special by providing opportunities and discounts to the tournament field. It wasn’t just the juniors who were treated to an incredible experience though, the AJGA staff were hosted at various community member’s homes for dinner and relaxation after the rounds, they attended a Top Golf outing in Dallas and were given tickets to a Dallas Mavericks game.

“The AJGA Preview at Brookhaven is special because Brookhaven is the home of junior golf,” said Klaudt.  “Yes, this is where Jordan Spieth learned to play and started his competitive careers; however, there are many more who have had successful junior, high school and college careers. Our members enjoying watching the next generation of golfers.”

The AJGA returned to Brookhaven Country Club for the tenth straight year March 29-31.
