The U.S. Curtis Cup team has been finalized, the USGA
recently announced. With the first five players named earlier in January, the
final three players - all AJGA alumni - have been selected. Lisa McCloskey of
Houston, Emily Tubert of Burbank, Calif., and Erica Popson of Davenport, Fla.,
will complete the team, which will travel to Scotland June 8-10, seeking its
eight straight victory over Great Britain & Ireland.
McCloskey, a senior at Southern Cal, was a four-time Rolex
Junior All-American and won three AJGA events in her junior career. She
finished second at the 2010 Women’s Amateur Public Links and is currently
ranked eighth in the Golfweek/Sagarin
College Rankings.
Tubert, a two-time Rolex Junior All-American and 2009 HP
Scholastic Junior All-American, captured one AJGA title as a junior. She is the 2010 Women’s
Amateur Public Links champion, making her one of two USGA champions on the 2012
Curtis Cup team. A sophomore at Arkansas, Tubert won three events as a
freshman.
Popson, a sophomore at Tennessee, is No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, having won
four tournaments for the Volunteers as a freshman, including the SEC Championship.
In her junior career, Popson finished in the top three in each of her two AJGA
performances.
Other AJGA alumni named to the team in the first round of
selections include Lindy Duncan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Austin Ernst of
Seneca, S.C., Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., and Brooke Pancake of
Chattanooga, Tenn.
