When ESPN named their “18 Under 18,” the list covered a
myriad of sports, and it’s no surprise that the two golfers on the list have
AJGA ties.
On the girls’ list, Lexi Thompson, an AJGA alum who turned
pro at age 15, makes an appearance. When she was 16 she became the youngest winner
of an LPGA event when a final-round 70
gave her a five-stroke victory over Tiffany Joh at the 2011 Navistar LPGA
Classic. Her second professional win
came at the 2011 Dubai Ladies Masters where she won by four, becoming the
second youngest winner on the LET.
As an AJGA member, Lexi was a three-time first-team Rolex Junior
All-American and won five AJGA events including the 2009 Polo Golf Junior
Classic.
The boys’ list features a current AJGA member - Beau Hossler.
Hossler, 16, made headlines last summer when he qualified for the U.S.
Open. His week included rounds of 77-76
at Congressional Country Club, where he was given the pro treatment and was able
to meet his idol, Phil Mickelson.
A high school junior, Hossler still plays AJGA events, most
recently notching a top-20 finish at the HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods
over Presidents Day weekend. Ranked No. 12 in the Polo Golf Rankings, he is a
two-time Rolex Junior All-American and has three AJGA wins. Hossler has
verbally committed to the University of Texas.
