The Regional Golf Championship will return to the AJGA
tournament schedule in 2012 with the Genesis Shootout presented by the Valero
Texas Open. The event will be held July 9-12 at Fair Oaks Ranch Golf and
Country Club in Fair Oaks, Texas.
The Regional Golf Championship offers an opportunity for 132
boys and girls, ages 12-18, who reside in the AJGA South Central Region, to
participate in an AJGA special event in their region.
First held in 2011, the Regional Golf Championship saw two
Texans get their first AJGA victory. Kayli Quinton of Cypress and Matt
Gilchrest of Southlake took home the hardware and springboarded their junior
careers. Gilchrest has made a verbal commitment to Auburn and was a Rolex Junior All-America honorable
mention, while Quinton, also a Rolex Junior All-American, has signed a National
Letter of Intent with Arkansas.
To be eligble for the Regional Golf Championship or the
coinciding TaylorMade-adidas Golf Qualifier, juniors must be a resident of the
AJGA South Central region, which includes Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas,
Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico.
A top finish in the 2011 state golf association junior
championship recognized in the AJGA PBE system or any AJGA event between June
6, 2011 and June 3, 2012 will earn a spot in this tournament. Any spots not accepted by pre-qualified
players will be filled by applicants based on their PBE status.
