Coming off her recent Invitational victories at the
Thunderbird International Junior and Rolex Girls Junior Championship, Ariya Jutanugarn added another title to
her already stunning resume. She faced her sister, Moriya, in the 36-hole
championship match of the Women’s Western Amateur and while older sister Moriya
beat Ariya earlier this year at the South Atlantic Amateur, it was Ariya who
came out on top in the rematch. After earning stroke play medalist honors, she
cruised to the championship match and triumphed over Moriya, 2 and 1.
In her AJGA career, Ariya has compiled eight top-five
finishes, highlighted by three Invitational victories. She broke the AJGA
scoring record when she finished at 18-under-par in the 2012 Rolex Girls Junior
Championship, topping her own record set last year. The two-time first-team
Rolex Junior All-American also picked up victories in the U.S. Girls’ Junior
Championship and the Junior PGA Championship en route to becoming the 2011
Rolex Junior Player of the Year.
