With talent on each team to go around, the 2012 Wyndham
Cup is shaping up to be a long three-day battle for the Cup. Loaded with Rolex
Junior All-Americans, Invitational champions and match play veterans, both the
East and West Teams are evenly matched in what figures to be an event that
comes down to the final match.
Below are some quick facts on each team. Click on each
team for a short bio of the players.
East
Team
(9-12-1 all-time record) – The current holders of the Cup boast eight players
making a return appearance (three boys and five girls), including six who
graduated high school earlier this year. The four past champions of the Polo
Golf Junior Classic will put on the East red, as Matthew NeSmith and Nicole
Morales (2011 champions) will join Cody Proveaux and Jaye Marie Green (2010
champions) in their hopes of bringing home the Cup for a second straight year.
West
Team
(12-9-1 all-time record) – Trying to regain the Cup after holding it for the
previous six years, the West Team will return seven members from 2011 (three
boys and four girls). The young squad will be led by Connor Black, Scott
Scheffler, Alison Lee and Lindsey Weaver, who went for a combined 8-7-1 record
in last year’s event. Lee and Weaver just competed in the 2012 U.S. Women’s
Open, with Lee being one of only three amateurs to make the cut.
