The
Inverness Hotel & Golf Club in Denver, Colo., one of Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play,” is set to host the biennial
PING Junior Solheim Cup in 2013, the American Junior Golf Association announced
Wednesday.
“The
Inverness Hotel & Golf Club is excited to host this special event,” said
David Steinmetz, Director of Golf. “Our membership
and staff look forward to a great week featuring these talented young female
players from the United States and Europe.”
Designed
by renowned golf course architect Preston Maxwell, the par-70, 7,056-yard championship
course will be a true test with its unforgiving slopes, rolling hills and deep
bunkers.
The
PING Junior Solheim Cup is a biennial, trans-Atlantic team match play
competition featuring the 12 best female junior golfers (ages 12-18) from
Europe and the United States. Matches
include four-ball, foursomes and singles. The 2013 event will host the seventh
PING Junior Solheim Cup, in which Team USA leads the all-time series,
3-2-1.
Notable
past players from Team USA include Paula Creamer, Vicky Hurst, Brittany
Lincicome, Brittany Lang, Morgan Pressel, Jessica Korda and Lexi Thompson. Past
participants from Team Europe include Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Belen Mozo
and Azahara Munoz.
The
sixth matchup in 2011 marked the first time a team captured the Cup on foreign
soil, as Team USA retained the title with a 12-12 tie at Knightsbrook Hotel Spa
& Golf Resort in Trim, County Meath, Ireland.
The
PING Junior Solheim Cup is owned and hosted by PING and will be operated by the
American Junior Golf Association with assistance from the Ladies Professional
Golf Association and the Ladies European Tour.
