The AJGA is known for conducting premier golf
tournaments, so it was no surprise when the organization was asked to help conduct
the PING/Golfweek Preview, Sept.
23-25. For the third time, the AJGA tournament operations staff will assist the
NCAA Championship preview competition. This year, the tournament is being held
at the Crabapple Course at the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga., site of
the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.
“The AJGA has
a great partner in PING and we have also enjoyed a long relationship with the
staff and membership at Capital City Club,” said Mark Oskarson, AJGA Chief Operating
Officer. “We’re really excited that Capital City Club is going to host the NCAA
Championship next year.”
With the AJGA National Headquarters located 40 miles
from the Capital City Club’s Crabapple Course, the national junior golf
organization jumped at the opportunity to help set the stage for the top
collegiate golfers in the country.
AJGA staff will go inside the ropes, providing
support with starting players, rules officiating, scoring and other tournament tasks.
The AJGA previously helped conduct the tournament in both 2002 and 2010, when
the event was held at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla.
Fourteen of the 15 teams competing are ranked in the
top 30 Golfweek men’s preseason rankings,
including eight of the top 10 teams.
Since its inception in 1989, the Preview has brought
together 15 prospective contenders for the NCAA title at the venue for that year’s
Division I championship. It is co-sponsored by PING and Golfweek magazine.
