Every day thousands of people flock to Las Vegas to beat the
odds. But for AJGA juniors, the odds are in their favor as 78 unsigned high
school seniors travel to Las Vegas to compete in front of hundreds of college
coaches.
With a field exclusive to unsigned high school seniors, the
ShowMeGolfers Junior Championship was conceived to offer one last look at the
seniors available for recruitment in the 2013 season. The event was timed to coincide
with the annual convention for Golf Coaches Association of America held in Las Vegas.
“This event embodies the AJGA Mission Statement and true
purpose,” said Mark Oskarson, AJGA Chief Operations Officer. “A college golf
scholarship is the dream for our juniors and any opportunity to provide them
with more chances to make that dream come true is something we believe in.”
Top high school seniors from around the country will compete
for the championship and perhaps more importantly, a college scholarship. Of
the 78 participants, 72 are in the class of 2013, while the rest graduated
earlier this year.
Tournament play will begin Saturday, Dec. 8, with first- and
final-round tee times running from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees
at Stallion Mountain Golf Club. An awards ceremony will immediately follow the
conclusion of Sunday’s final round. Spectators are welcome and admission is
free of charge.
