For the fourth year in a row, local organizers of the HP Boys
Championship at Carlton Woods, which took place Feb. 17-20 at The Club at
Carlton Woods' Fazio Championship Course in The Woodlands, Texas, have been
awarded the Junior-Am Award. This award honors
a tournament committee that exceeds expectations in fundraising through its
Junior-Am Fundraising Tournament.
Each year, the AJGA presents
awards to the tournaments with the best individual media coverage, charitable
giving, volunteer base and hospitality. The AJGA also recognizes the year’s
most outstanding golf professional, superintendent and general manager, as well
as the most improved event, best new tournament, best Invitational and overall
tournament of the year.
The HP Boys Championship at Carlton Woods has an
esteemed history with names such as Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, and Rickie Fowler
on the list of past champions. Recognized last year as the Invitational of the
Year, the tournament creates an unparalleled championship experience. This
experience is due, in large part, to the generosity of a network of friends,
businesses, and organizations surrounding the event.
"I have a large support in my
community of friends that understand my passion for junior golf,” said
Tournament Co-Chairman Brett Snortland. “I have a special interest with
military and autism in my family and it helps people to know that my heart is
100 percent committed.”
Since the HP Boys Championship moved
to The Club at Carlton Woods in 2009, the Tournament Committee has raised more
than $430,500, including $110,500 in 2012, through its Junior-Am Fundraising
Tournament.
“This award is a representation
of the passion for the game and traditions of golf, commitment and generosity
of so many wonderful individuals and companies,” said Tournament Co-Chairman
Christine Dernick. “Our title sponsors HP and Carlton Woods, our tournament
sponsors, committee, volunteers, the staff of Carlton Woods and the AJGA have
been integral pieces for making this quality tournament possible. We are
grateful to have so many great friends and resources in the community to create
a first-class event that in the end benefits these fine junior boys, our
community and so many wonderful charities.”
The tournament returns to the
AJGA schedule in 2013 and will be played Feb. 15-18 at The Club at Carlton
Woods.
