Each summer since 2003, a town of 2,400 in northwest
Georgia has invited hundreds of AJGA families into its community. The Evitt
Foundation RTC Junior All-Star in Ringgold, Ga., was played for the 10th time
in 2012, and the AJGA has recognized the tournament committee’s continued
dedication by naming its event the Junior All-Star of the Year.
“It is truly a blessing to be a part of such an
incredible event,” said Tournament Chairman Marcy Cirlot Kernea. “Tournament
week is one of my favorite times of the year. The excitement builds for months,
and the event never disappoints.”
Title sponsor, Ringgold Telephone Company, created a
special first tee experience by supplying telephones to serve as tee markers.
After the first round, participants took part in a multi-part social activity,
where winners received gift cards and other prizes after competing in games
that included; a lob shot, a closest-to-the-hole, and a marshmallow long-drive
competition.
“When the tournament festivities come to a close,
planning immediately begins for the next year,” Cirlot Kernea said. “From year
to year the tournament is always changing, adapting, growing and building so
the event never becomes stale.”
This marks the fourth tournament award for the AJGA
event in Ringgold, as it has also won the Hospitality Award (2003), Media Award
(2004) and Volunteer Award (2010).
The Evitt Foundation RTC Junior All-Star returns to
the AJGA schedule in 2013 and will be played June 3-6 at WindStone Golf Club.
