Julian Perico of Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida (Peru), shot a career-low 6-under par 64 in the first round of the Latin America Amateur Championship at Club de Golf de Panama in Panama City, Panama. An AJGA member since 2016, Perico has played in two AJGA events, the Thunderbird International Junior and the Puerto Rico Junior Open presented by Eagles Dream Golf Academy.
The 17-year-old carded six birdies on his front nine for a championship record 29. He went on to card consecutive birdies on his back nine to finish out his record-setting day. The junior is the youngest player in the field and is verbally committed to the University of South Florida.
Perico leads by one stroke heading into the second round. He will tee off Friday at 12:51 pm EST.
