AJGA CLUBCORP JUNIOR PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP
The Homestead Resort, Lower Cascades Course
Hot Springs, Virginia
July 30-August 2, 2001

TWO PENNSYLVANIA NATIVES LEAD AJGA CLUBCORP
JUNIOR PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

HOT SPRINGS, Va.-- Blaine Peffley of Lebanon, Pa., shot a 4-under-par 68 en route to a commanding lead after two rounds at the AJGA ClubCorp Junior Players Championship. Peffley's total of 5-under-par 139 leads three players by five shots. In the Girls Division, Whitney Myers of East Berlin, Pa., carded a 74 to take the lead with a 6-over-par 150.

The ClubCorp Junior Players Championship, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association at The Homestead Resort, Lower Cascades Course, features 120 players from 20 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada. Included in the field are 20 players from Virginia.

Peffley carded nines of 34-34, including six birdies, for an impressive second round at the tradition-rich Homestead Resort.

"I played a solid round," the 16-year-old said. "I hit 14 greens and hit my irons near the hole to set myself up for birdie throughout the day."

Peffley's rounds of 71 and 68 has given him confidence entering the final round.

"If I'm going to make any mistakes tomorrow it will be for birdie so I can settle for par," Peffley said. "I am going to put myself in position to stay in the lead and win the tournament."

The logjam after round one continued with six players within six strokes of the leader. Blake Sattler of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Chris Irwin of Laconia, N.H., and Brett Lange of Atlanta, Ga., are tied for second at even-par 144. All three players shot rounds of even-par 72 on both days. Garrett Pike of Sterling, Va., Brant Stovall of Lawsonville, N.C., and Thomas Hagler IV of Riggold, Ga., are in fifth place at 3-over-par 145.

In the Girls Division, Myers carded nines of 38-36 with two birdies en route to her 2-over-par 74 round.

"My short game especially my chipping helped my round today," said the 15-year-old. "Everything else was very inconsistent which could hurt me going into the final round."

Myers, who is playing in her fifth AJGA event, is excited to play in the final pairing tomorrow.

"I'm not going to place any pressure on myself," Myers said. "I am going to play my best and if I don't win; life goes on."

Chasing Myers is Katie Miller of Jeannette, Pa., with a two-day total of 154. Five strokes behind Myers is a three-way tie for third place between Erica Battle of Columbia, S.C., Blair Lamb of Flat Rock, N.C., and Carling Cho of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.

The AJGA ClubCorp Junior Players Championship will conclude with tomorrow's final round. Tee times are at 7:30 a.m.-1:21 p.m. at The Homestead Resort, Lower Cascades Course. For more information, please contact AJGA headquarters at (540) 839-7565.
