HARMON STRIDES AHEAD TO TAKE BOYS DIVISION LEAD
McConnell one day short of garnering her first AJGA Girls Division title

WINDSOR, Ontario - A pair of Michigan natives shine atop their respective fields Wednesday in the second round of the Toldo Group Eastern Canadian Junior. Matthew Harmon of Grand Rapids, Mich., fired his second under-par round to seize the Boys Division lead. Mandi McConnell of Grand Blanc, Mich., remains atop the Girls Division shooting another 1-over-par 73.

The 54-hole tournament, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, features 99 players from 10 states, Canada and Bermuda, including 34 Ontario natives.

Harmon matched the lowest score of the day firing a 3-under-par 68. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native shined on the course carding eight birdies and five bogeys despite overcast weather conditions and imminent rain.

"I made a lot of birdies today because my putter was working," said Harmon. "It wasn't tough playing out there. The greens were great. They were perfect."

Standing at 3-under-par 139 and in a four-way tie for second place are Matthew Hiatt of Sylvania, Ohio; Jason Kokrak of Warren, Ohio; Kevin Bryce of Mississauga, Ontario and Richard Scott of Kingsville, Ontario.

McConnell carded duplicate rounds of 73-73-146 to lead the Girls Division by one stroke. The 17-year-old will rely on her strengths and consistent play as she looks to capture her first AJGA title Thursday.

"I have the ability to focus very well," said McConnell. "I can block out pressure and what people say.

"I plan on playing the same game on Thursday by remaining calm and staying focused. It'll happen when it's supposed to happen."

Morgan Pressel of Boca Raton, Fla., trails in second place by one stroke and Kelly Robb of Concord, Mass., shot rounds of 76-73-149 to stand alone in third.

The final round tee times will run from 6:30 - 11:18 a.m. off the No. 1 tee at Roseland Golf and Curling Club.
